I just wanted to start a general discussion on other users use of WSS.

• Are you using it?
• Are you using the standalone or farm setup?
• Have you gotten the search service working?
• Do you have any tips and tricks you would like to share with other users?
• Any additions using web parts packages that may be of interest to others?

I am in the process of compiling my notes and making some screenshots for a pretty standard installation procedure that does not use the embedded sql server and does utilize a functioning search service. Is this of any interest to anyone?

I have a question??

 I have a single server with sqlExpress2005, IIS6, .NET3 and FRONTPAGE EXTENSION. What happen if I install WSS3 in this server. I read in some article, that WSS not is compatible whit FrontPage Extension.

Is true this?

Use the web front end installation mode so you are not creating a SharPoint site on the default website and you will be fine.

I would be insterested in information about WSS as I have been asked for it but as I know very little about it I havent installed it and havent gotten around to learning about it.

A standard setup install script would be good and some do's and donts in terms of security / config etc.

I started out to write a very detailed installation instruction tutorial including screenshots (which I have already taken) but I just broke ground on my new house and have very little time for much anything extra right now.

 Just a few words of advice:

• Do NOT use the basic standalone server install. This will install an embedded SQL Server instance and you do not need the additional overhead.
• DO use the web front end installation.
• DO use your installed SQL Server whether it be on the same machine or a remote.
• DO use dedicated DOMAIN\Users to setup the services, this is especially important when trying to get the search service to work.

One of these days I'll get around to the tutorial but don't hold your breath. I'll try to answer any specific questions you may have though.
