MS DNS - Having issue with secondary zone transfers

My secondary dns server (about 200 zones) is constantly transferring zones from the primary, stating a new version is found, when it clearly is the same.

I am not sure what is causing this about half of the zone is always unavailable on the secondary server.

Debug logging indicates in every 15 minutes it is initiating zone transfers for all the zones, because 'a new version is found'.

I am not able to identify the cause of it, any help will be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

Can you check, if the secondary server saves the transferred zone data correctly?

    Cheers,

Re: MS DNS - Having issue with secondary zone transfers

When a transfer does take place, I can see the zone data in the DNS management. I can't locate where this data is saved. Would you know where MS DNS stores secondary  zone data?

The debug logging indicates every 2 minutes or so it finds new zones for all the zones and initiates transfer for them.

I have another secondary dns server that seems to be working properly. Which makes me think the primary dns server is working properly.

    Thanks for the help.

Re: MS DNS - Having issue with secondary zone transfers

Zones files are stored in %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\dns\

Have you already compared the serial number of he SOA on primary and secondary? Normally a zone transfer will only take place if the serial number on the primary has increased.

Is this happening for all zones or just a few?

What you can try is: stop the DNS service on the secondary. Delete all .dns files on the secondary (leave cache.dns in place). Afterwards copy all .dns files from the primary to the secondary. Restart the DNS service on the secondary.

    Thanks.

The secondary zone files are not created by MS DNS due to a problem I believe in DNP's provider, I have posted this in the support forum:
