Has Anyone Ever Moved a DNP Install To a New Server

I have to move to a new server for more space and I need to move my DNP install.

Everyone, including DNP Support and Rubal is telling me that there is no real way to do it other than manually moving each account.

Has anyone ever done this and if so, how successful were you?

I have my new server ready to go and I don't want to keep paying for two servers. So I need to make this move ASAP.

I have so many current projects that even though it might only take a few days to move all the accounts, I really don't have time to spare.

It is hard to believe that no forethought has ever been put into the need to move a DNP install to another server.

I am open to any ideas and to working with anyone who has actually done this.

    Thanks.

hi i tried to do this last night for testing. and it dont work! this is a seriously bad thing! what if a server crashed and you had to do a recovery

ie with Helm, you would just need to reinstall Helm then restore the SQL database.  i tried doing with with DNP and it didnt work, tons of .net errors. the only way was to create a new DB.

    Good lunk!

I try to move DNP last year from one dedicated server holding everything in one server, to a new each server doing a dedicated service. This process told me 1 months finalize and and 3 month to clear out all the bugs the new senario (also waiting the new updates from DNP). I'm sure how improved is DNP on moving from one system to another, cause that was back in DNP 2.1. Now there are up to 2.4.2, bugs sure have been fix alot, DNP team is quick on this area.

Try to check my handle on previous post for solutions, cause i ask alot from the forum.

All I can say is I have to move, so we (me and Rubal with hopefully some DNP support if needed) are going to try it and document it as much as possible.

    Will keep you all posted.

Well, Rubal did it. It was a long day of planning and preparation, but with minimal downtime we swapped my entire hosting solution to another server and kept all the same IP addresses.

Rubal did a superb job of support, even late into the evening (actually into the early morning hours). We did have some minor issues with my DataCenter having problems swapping some of my IPs from one server to the other, but that was outside of our control. The DNP and Mail services were up immediately, and we had to wait a short while on the other services (DNS and web) because of the IP swap at the DataCenter.

Rubal may care to share some of his experience and planning on this to help the community. But we definitely showed that it can be done and in a quick and relatively painless manner. I do have a support ticket into DNP for an issue, but all my sites and other services are up and running.

Hope to provide more updates soon!

Would really like to read the migration path strategy yall used, we have to do the same thing soon.

Looks like only difference we have is that we are migrating to new server with new IPs.

is the dnp setup really that hard to move?  Now my question was is this just the main CP for DNP and database or was this customer data/sites that had also been on the same server?

Re: Has Anyone Ever Moved a DNP Install To a New Server

I could use your help.   The company where i am currently hosting, sold my partner on the need to upgrade to dot net panel.   we were using hosting controller, and were told by the sales person that HC was outdated and that DNP was the way to go.  so we switched, and the headaches began.  our current hosting company made it seem like they had people on staff that were very knowledgeable with DNP.  They told us how to import from HC to DNP step by step.  what they didnt tell us was that DNP had limitations for the number of sites imported.  So we imported about 150 sites using the import feature.  afterwhich we found out that DNP couldnt handle the amount of sites imported with out issues.  One of which was the permissioons issue.  Any how long story short, they (our) hosting company is now telling us the only viable solution is to buy another machine to add sites to, because they dont know how the migration to a new machine will work.  they are willing to try it, but at 100 bucks an hour for the first 5 hours, and they will not guaruntee that it will work, but the funds spent in finding out are non-refundable.  jeesh, i just want it done.  help?
