Need help! Accounts create, then immediately delete.

Hopefully this is something that everyone knows and I just don't know where to look. I have certain accounts that create, then immediately delete themselves as shown below. Is there any additional logs that might show why DNP decided to delete the account? I am guessing it is some sort of policy type thing that is causing it to purge the account, but I don't know where to look. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hello,

I assume you have pasted the above from DNP audit log right?

There is one more place where we can see what happened, that is if you RDP to the server then Start-->Programs-->Administrative tools-->Event Viewer-->DotNetPanel

If you check the events here may be you will know what happened and also the cause. It might not help solve the issue but atleast if you report this to DNP staff they will be able to help.

And btw you are not alone Wink I have the same issue and there is one othe DNP customer having this same issue. Wish you good luck.

Also one more thing you have posted this in the wrong forum this is Kbiki Forum not DNP support forum!!

Sorry about posting in the wrong forum I don't believe I can move it, so if a moderator happens across this please move it to a better home so that others may benefit.

Yes, the above was from the DNP audit log... I later found the event log as well, but thank you for noting that here.

As it turns out, my event log didn't show anything either, but through trial & (lots of) error I eventually found what was preventing the accounts from creating. I never did find out what caused the problem in the first place other than that it seemed to be tied to a specific time frame where every account we created during that time was "damaged".

In my case the results of the damaged accounts where components of the hosting account which DNP either couldn't, or wouldn't delete. I have DNP create an AD account, setup an FTP space and create a folder for the user. Some of the affected accounts had created new folders with a "1" appended apparently in an attempt to work past whatever it was having trouble with, but others were just sitting there as if nothing was wrong.

To fix my problem I just had to delete all traces of the account's existence beyond DNP. In other words I had to erase the actual user from my server, erase the FTP space AND erase the directory itself. I tested every combination of leaving any one of those pieces behind and every attempt failed except when I deleted everything. Once I purged all of that I was able to manipulate the account as it should have been again with no errors. Fortunately we were able to identify the damaged accounts and recreate only those necessary but as I write this I still have a few to go.

In the end the only "real" problem was that DNP never sent back an error condition when attempting to create these damged accounts. We create all of our accounts from our billing software as a front-end to DNP and that software received "everything OK" back from DNP, but everything was not OK because DNP had created the account partially and then reversed the process when whatever unseen bad thing happened. Technically the account was created, but then it was immediately purged without telling us. We found out the hard way when things just didn't work.

    Hello,

    Thanks for sharing your experience.

However my situation is I am not able to find the damaged accounts, IIS,DNS and Hosting spaces are clean. I can create the same account that is getting deleted from within DNP without any issue. Problem shows up only when using API(in my case WHMCS dotnetpanel module)

I made sure that I am not trying to create a service that is not there on my server. Another frustrating thing is One account got created and it is not deleted by DNP!! right from the 2nd one started struggle.

I have to migrate/provision 800+ accounts, automation is key for me. Right now I am Confused

    Thanks,

    Krish.

Re: Need help! Accounts create, then immediately delete.

Hopefully you have found some answers by now, but I came across one final interesting facet to this puzzle while I was finishing cleaning up my accounts. In our case we only use WHMCS's "domain" field to identify special case situations. From our point of view, the only affect it has is to add whatever we are trying to note to customer's invoices. In one case we have a customer that DNP was supposed to create two FTP accounts with slightly different usernames. (one just appended "07" but was otherwise the same as the first) Because of what the account was doing we added special identification into the WHMCS domain field so that the two accounts could be easily identified. For whatever reason DNP refused to create the second account while any data was entered into the domain field. Even though we have dozens of other accounts that we do the exact same thing to that continue to work fine, this one simply will not. There are no errors in the event log and the audit log simply shows the creation and then an immediate delete with no explanation.

As it turns out the domain field is being used by DNP as part of the creation process, but I can't figure out why it cares what is entered there.....or if it does have a good reason, why all of my other accounts which are done the same way continue to work perfectly fine.

In any case you might want to play with data in the domain field in your case....maybe something in there is affecting you somehow as well.

Good luck! It is always fun to fix problem when the software can't even tell us what is wrong.
