How do you use the current Storefront?

I'm new to DNP in the middle of setting my servers up and so on...

After reading this forum and other places, I'm not sure what's the current status of the current Storefront is, since lots of the issues mentioned in earlier postings seem to handle older versions of DNP and I can't find out if it still works that way. But if it - atleast in the big picture - still has some issues for you hosters out there, how did you work around it and how have you solved it?

My wish is to customize the look and content of storefront QuickSignup form (not so much the content but for example "State/Province" isn't used here in Sweden so I'd like to remove it or atleast make it unvisible maybe filling it automatically with some junk if needed since it's unvisible anyhow. This way I can implement it seemless into my website from where the customers should have the look and feel is one website and one website only - not that they're beeing redirected to a signup-website.

Even better would be if I could make clickable linkbuttons on my own webpage, and depending on which button (one for each package but where I present one package per page - not all on the same page) they'd come to the quick signup form and then the first form content would be pre-filled and also unvisible to the customer at this first wizard stage. Next comes the agreement to accept as usual and next step I'd like to have a new step; The optional add-ons to the product customer has chosen in first place. Here's a good place to upsell. And next step is back to current wizard step; Invoice summary.

How much of this wanted method of mine is possible to do right now with DNP? If not possible (i can accept jumping the upsell part for now) - how do you guys use storefront or how do you work around it to function better for you?

Your requests can be posted here (Ecommerce improvements - but from some time no one from DNP crew responded in this topic):

In Poland we dont use Stat/Province too but they exists (just like in Sweden there are "län" (found on Wikipedia :) ) ?) so users must write in the registration form from which part of country they are.

This can be achieved. Just go to some hosting package and use URL from it (it's not looking too good but it works).

If You really want to customize Signup form You can always download WebPortal sources from DotNetPanel download section, modify them in Visual Studio and upload to Your server as default DotNetPanel Portal page.

:-) That's right, we have "län" but since no-one ever uses it in registration forms here, I don't want it to show up for the users either. To force new customers fill in meaningless fields of no use is just stupid in my opinion, and looking to myself when filling in forms I can abort filling just because stupid forms or mandatory questions that I don't want to answer, and so on... There are always others out there to contact instead, almost no matter what one's purpose is. And I don't want my potential customers to be bored and annoyed by non-used form fields so they'll abort their registration and googles to a competitor of mine instead...

Ahh! Great tip, thank you! I'll try that one out very soon. Right now I'm struggling with a reseller storefront to show only the categories and products of his - not mine as serveradmin as it show now by some reason :-/ hehe. Sure, I could probably modify some pages but if I've understand it correctly then I can't update DNP comfortably any more? Then I have to have a backup of all my modifications and go though every source file after every update just to look over so my modifying hasn't been overwritten, and if so - insert my code again at right places? Or am I wrong?

Re: How do you use the current Storefront?

Hmm... Does no-one use the Storefront at all, or are you guys just unwilling to tell how you're using it? Or maybe my questions is a bit strange, huh? However, it would be interesting to see the storefront in action on your servers, how it looks against customers if you've customized it somehow - or if you've made your own programming in some way or if you use other software, and so on...

Personally, I'm struggling with CSS to get all my website to look the same. It's still under development but if anyone is interested you can have a look and feel free to try the registering process as well - the site isn't really in use yet. so I'll delete all orders that comes thru (ALL orders during month of october 2008 will be deleted, the site opens at 1st of Novemer as it earliest). At the moment I only have offline payment ("faktura" in swedish, that is "invoice", so you will not buy anything. It would also be nice if you could send me a mail (snoutten at hotmail dot com) as an extra confirmation to me that I should delete your order.

Main site: www.appsonline.se (in Swedish right now but click the pink banner on the right to come to the storefront. The DNP control panel is available at admin.appsonline.se (if you create an account during registration). I don't know if the storefront is all in swedish or if it's just for me it shows in my language (!) - since I'm new to DNP I haven't figured that part out yet. But in all the look should be pretty the same, with just some small glitches in the css's :)

Has anyone else customized your storefront or do you use the default theme even if you have another theme at your main site?

Feedback and suggestions would be appreciated to help me in the development :)
