how do I allow users to manage their MSSQL 2008 DB's via the web?

    Hi all,

How can I allow (i.e. what tool(s) do I need to install) clients to manage their MSSQL 2008 Web Edition databases via the internet? If a client logs into DNP, and then creates a MSSQL Database in DNP, how do I add a link there to a program, to allow them to manage the data in the DB?

    Rubal:

    Very pricey, unfortunately.

There is a free web based manager from MS which is one of the instant install apps in DNP. but I've never been able to get it to connect.

I went the route of having users connect to a VPN and allowing access via SQL management studio. Much nicer.

Sorry to say but your product is still vastly over priced for what it is IMHO, especially considering your very strict licencing rules. Even at half the price I think I would say no, simply because apart from not been a necessity (I feel customers are put off being forced to use a web based tool anyway), paying $1k per server for a minor (unnessersary) tool doesn't make financial sense for us.

IMO you would be better off giving away the express version (thus growing your user base) and offering an enterprise version at a reasonable cost and charging for support.

Thanks for sharing your opinion. In the meantime, I do not think this is the right place to talk about our pricing policy so please do not be offensed if I do no reply at your arguments. Feel free to contact us directly from our livechat system: http://mylittleadmin.com/en/purchase.aspx

Re: how do I allow users to manage their MSSQL 2008 DB's via the web?

We have an enhanced version of the MS SQL Web Admin. Some of the enhancements:

    1. Direct log in from DNP via 'browse database' option
    2. Browse table data
    3. Views: Add/List/Remove/browse data
    4. Ported to ASP.NET 2.0 (original was 1.1)
    5. Login page shows a drop down list of available servers
    6. Only log in option is SQL Server Account (No windows integrated option)
    7. Ability to install/remove ASP.NET Membership/Profile/Personalization objects in a database

Its been there for a while (over 2 years), and initially I wanted to share it with the community. But looking at the MS licensing terms on each and every file of the original code, I see no safe way to publish it  without re-writing the whole thing.

Hi Haider, Is your MSSQL management program still available? Where can I download, or purchase it and what does it cost?
