so what's so bad about the ecommerce anyway?

We're trialing DNP at the moment and as a small host the ecomerce on the face of it looks okay. It allows people to signup (which is often done by our sales guys) and send them invoice etc.

Biggest issue I've seen is that it doesn't support WorldPay - anyone seen a custom add-on?

    I assume repeat billing works?

Repeat invoicing does work. The only issue is from what I can tell, is there is no link to put in the email so the customer can easily get to the billing page. Also, if a client logs into DNP, it isn't obvious where to go to pay a bill.

The worst aspect of the ecommerce solution is in the situation a customer needs more resources, such a disk space or bandwidth or more emails. In this case you cannot simply buy a configured add-on. You cannot buy this from the store. Don't ask me why. This one caught me last year.

Sorry to say, but you are wrong. Not supporting of WorldPay is not a biggest issue.

Have a look here: http://forum.dotnetpanel.com/forums/t/4111.aspx to learn why the ecommerce module has to be drastically improved.

That's a maybe, but we clearly saw it wasn't up to our needs and you didn't get our business. Helm may have it's failings, but billing works.

This is sooo true. I think DNP has done a tremedous job on the hosting services side but on the ecommerce side its not even usable.

I dont see where you can configure the invoice. You cannot do manual invoices.  You cannot choose between annual or monthly billing cycles without being able to configure the invoices.

I have yet to figure out how to invoice a customer.

    Hello Lannie,

Billing cycles should be set up prior to configuring any products or addons. Afterwards you will be able to setup hosting products/addons and bind billing cycles correspondingly.

    Thanks.

    Paul,

e-commerce module needs to be dramatically improved. I hope someone is working on that. It is hardly usable except for very basic tasks.

    Best regards.

No doubts. That's the purpose of it - help in basic tasks. Rich billing capabilities is a subject for another product... However, we are still in charge of it and you can send us improvement requests you're looking for - I promise we'll do our best to satisfy it.

Re: so what's so bad about the ecommerce anyway?

    Hello,

things you said are very important. So you're saying it's not your goal to provide a full-featured (or at least, usable for its purpose) billing system, is that right? As far as I know, this is first time I hear from someone at DNP that e-commerce module is NOT among your goals for DNP improvement. This is very important as every time someone asked about it, someone replied that DNP team was working (though not very hard) on it.

So you're basically saying that everyone willing to have a billing system should use a 3rd party product: can you please confirm ?

We were waiting for news about e-commerce module in order to understand what to do with billing. We didn't want to use a 3rd party product but now we basically understand that e-commerce on DNP simply won't happen and we need to decide which other product to get for that.

Thanks: it was needed as it finally made it clear.
