Windows x64 & Merak 9.4.1 - Cannot create an account

    [14/05/2009 9:59:13 PM] ERROR: 'Merak Mail Server 8.0.3 - 9.2.x' AccountExists
    System.Exception: Cannot create ActiveX component.
       at Microsoft.VisualBasic.Interaction.CreateObject(String ProgId, String ServerName)
       at DotNetPanel.Providers.Mail.Merak.AccountExists(String mailboxName)
       at DotNetPanel.Server.MailServer.AccountExists(String accountName)

There is no domain or user in Merak - and have tried a few different domains and combinations - same error. Do I need to downgrade to a 9.2 version or is this a x64 windows and 32bit merak problem? Thanks for your assistance.

    Hi,

If you are running Windows 2008 x64 please put setting 'Enable 32-bit application' - true. This setting is located under settings of Dotnetpanel Server Application Pool.

That's unfortunately not to the issue - 32bit was selected just after installing dnp - I have uninstalled and reinstalled Icewarp twice and the error is still the same. Spent about 4 hours now trying everything..... really trying hard to get x64 working :)

Re: Windows x64 & Merak 9.4.1 - Cannot create an account

I've just provisioned a 32bit 2008 SP2 server and the problem is still there:

    [5/15/2009 8:39:50 PM] ERROR: 'Merak Mail Server 8.0.3 - 9.2.x' CreateAccount
    System.ApplicationException: Failed to save account

       at DotNetPanel.Providers.Mail.Merak.CreateAccount(MailAccount mailbox)
       at DotNetPanel.Server.MailServer.CreateAccount(MailAccount account)

Can somone please get this sorted ASAP - it frustrates me somewhat to see your new website and yet the support is falling behind. Please help - there is a major issue with your Merak provider on 2008 platforms.

Re: Windows x64 & Merak 9.4.1 - Cannot create an account

I have 100's of clients without email in their control panel now. I cannot understand why this hasn't been replied too - this is a core advertised feature of DotNetPanel that just doesnt work at all. I must say I have canned Plesk for reasons like this - no support and software that is buggy.

Overall DNP is a great product compared to other panels on Windows - I have been using it for many years now. Can I at least get some idea of timeframes - just a reply to say we're looking into it and a rought ETA on the fix would suffice. Thanks.

Re: Windows x64 & Merak 9.4.1 - Cannot create an account

I hate to say this because it doesn't help much, but I have Merak working on Windows Server 2008 64-bit with no issues.  DNP 2.8.3 works fine with it as well.  Installation was no problem (except for the 32-bit issue noted above) and I have had zero issues with this setup.  The only time I have trouble adding accounts is when I don't specify a Mailbox Size Limit in DNP but putting a "0" there works fine.

However, I am on version 9.3.2 of Merak but I can't see how that would make a difference.

Re: Windows x64 & Merak 9.4.1 - Cannot create an account

Thanks for your post. I have installed clean windows 2008 servers on both 32bit and x64 and the same result. Did you tweak icewarp at all - changing permissions on directories for part of the config? I had everything running very sweet on 2003 Enterprise - icewarp is my only issue with our upgrade to 2008.I have tried a few things again this afternoon with no luck. These machines are on Xenserver 5 VM's but that shouldnt affect the provider from my understanding.

In all honesty I never had an issue.  It just worked out of the box without any tweaking on my end.  Nothing special was done at all.

The only difference I see is that I am not running SP2 yet on Server 2008.  Perhaps Microsoft introduced an incompatibility with that release.  That has been known to happen in the past with some of their other updates.

Ok - Deleted everything including merak database and reinstalled 9.2.1 - it's finally working. What an episode - thanks for your help.

Cool.  FYI, it does work with Merak 9.3.2 as well if you wanted to upgrade.  That's what I'm running.  I'm not sure about 9.4 or higher, however.  I haven't tried those.

Just out of curiosity, did it work with 2008 SP2?

I'd like to know before I upgrade my server.

Re: Windows x64 & Merak 9.4.1 - Cannot create an account

Yes it's working on a clean install of 2008 DC Edition 32bit SP2. I have also upgraded to 9.4.2 and it's working as expected. FInally got there - after a nightmare with Plesk gremlins taking over my whole server I'm happy to get DNP back on our shared windows server and working 100%.

My number one wish would be to have a link in the panel to check your webmail like plesk does - it makes things alot easier for clients - like the stats link to SmarterStats.Cheers for the replys.
