    URL Rewrite (Helicon)

Would love to see this product integrated into DNP for enabling / disabling and also in-house editing of the .htaccess file.

    Re: URL Rewrite (Helicon)

Helicon has two products which allows url rewriting. When you use Helicon Ape then your users can access Helicon Ape snapin in IIS7 Manager when they connect using remote IIS7 Manager (of course you must have IIS7 and allows this feature in DNP).

    Re: URL Rewrite (Helicon)

I use ISAPI_Rewrite from Helicon and I can't see any integreation with DotNetPanel that needs to be done.
Their solution works out of the box. You only need to install it on the web server.
The only thing you is not to use .htaccess as the file extension if you also have IISPassword installed.

This is all fine, minus you have to manually set the ISAPI filter. When you get a request to enable it for 15 domains, its quiet annoying to have to set them all manually.

    Re: URL Rewrite (Helicon)

Why dont you setup this ISAPI filter globally so it can load up on all the websites by default? Anyone who wants to use this ISAPI can simply upload the rule file and rewrite will be in effect.

    Thanks

    Re: URL Rewrite (Helicon)

The DotNetPanel Module for secure folders uses a .htaccess by default so if you're running IIS 7 be aware of a possible conflict with Helicon.

On a different note, has anyone successfully installing Helicon's APE on the following system, Win 08 x64 IIS 7 ? We tried and hit so may permission problems we gave up.

We've been supporting Microsoft's URL Rewrite Module which has worked great; pretty much all of our client's requirements(www to non-www, WordPress permalinks supported etc.). Best of all it's not a third party module and it’s free. Helicon's APE seems like it could be opening a can of worms, especially if Apache users think they'll be able to upload their apps .htaccess file to IIS and it’ll work out of the box (Well at least that’s been my experience).

With Helicon you can choose it to use a different file so it is not using .htaccess, we have done it and it seems to be working fine but saying that we have not used DNP and will be trying it with DNP shortly.

Added this to the http.conf file - AccessFileName FILENAME.WITHEXTENSION
