    Lost 'Applications Installer' in 2.8.12

     Good afternoon-

    It appears users can no longer access their Applications Installer after the upgrade to 2.8.12.

    For compairson, I created a brand new account and added the Application Installer, but the account does not list the App Installer as an option. In fact, the option is no longer available in our root account.

    Anyone else having the issue?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

    I've just tested and indeed there is an issue. The Applications Installer quote is available in Hosting Plan, but it is not accessible in Hosting Space.

    System: w2k3 se sp2 x32, DNP v2.8.12

    Dear DNP team, it's really frustrating when you do not let the customers/administrators know that Application Installer is removed or it's broken or whatever!

    Please announce what is going to happen to the Application Installer or fix the issue.

    BTW, if there is a lack of testing/testers before the release, you can let people know in forums. I'm sure there will be plenty of people willing to help with testing pre-releases.

    Thank you!

    Regards,
    Jegor.

    Prostoemailee- thanks for your input- i feel a bit better knowing its not just my imagination or an issue with my environment exclusively.

    Anyone else have the issue or does anyone know of a workaround?

     Thanks!

    Hi,

    We sincerely apologize for the accident. We did our best to design upgrade left App Installer module intact on existing environments and it seems like a bug on our side. Please check folder "C:\Program Files\DotNetPanel Software\DotNetPanel Configuration Studio\Backup\<DATE-OF-UPDATE>\DotNetPanel Enterprise Server <VERSION-NUM>\App\app.zip"... This package should contain all content from the previous app version. Copy "Applications.xml" file from here into "<DotNetPanel-EnterpriseServer-Folder>\Web Applications\" folder and it should be fixed by then. Thanks.

     Hi there-

    Thanks for the follow-up. I tried the fix, but even after restoring an older applications.xml file, the problem still remains. I even rebooted the server for good measure. :-)

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks-

    Hi Dmitry,

    Thank you for your prompt response. However the fix you described does not work. I had <DotNetPanel-EnterpriseServer-Folder>\Web Applications\Applications.xml in place and compared via WinMerge to the one in app.zip. The files are identical.

    After I replaced the file (which was no sence to do), restarted IIS and tested again: the Application Installer icon and link still does not appear in the existing Hosting Spaces.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks.

    Regards,
    Jegor.

    I'm looking into following 2 files:

    1. "<DNP_Portal>\App_Data\DotNetPanel_Pages.config". Reference to Application Installer module was removed (lines 434 - 444).
    2. "<DNP_Portal>\App_Data\DotNetPanel_Modules.config". Reference to Application Installer module was removed (lines 351 - 357).

    Rest of files related to Application Installer are still present, but there are differences in some binary DLLs.

    Regards,
    Jegor.

    Hi.
    Yes, those files solves it all.
    I'v tested this and it looks fine right now.
    Hope there will be a fix for this since I have a few servers to update.

    You should only have to fix this where the Enterprise application is installed. The XML needs fixed I found this the day it came out as I lost all the applications. I always take backup of the files in App_Code in the enterprise install as they get some pretty drasticchanges from time to time.

     Hey Jerel-

    If I understand you correctly, you are saying to replace the entire App_Code directory from a backup of 2.8.11?

    Thanks!

    I would not do this as files there might contain changes for version 12 as well.

    No, I am saying to backup those files each time you upgrade and then with something changes, do a compare of the two so you can see what changed.

    If you need the lines to put back in the appropriate files I can paste them here.

    I did a clean install and mine is missing also.  I would greatly appreciate the code snippets. -- Thanks!

    Hi,

    Just replace those 2 files I mentioned above with the ones from previous version. It's safe to replace them, as there were NO OTHER changes except removing Application Installer.

    The previous version files you can get here.

    Jegor.

    Re: Lost 'Applications Installer' in 2.8.12

    Well, I figured it out for the most part.  Basicly you need to create this folder: C:\DotNetPanel\Enterprise Server\WebApplications

    Then you need to create a Applications.xml file in that folder with contents like this:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <categories>
     <category id="ContentManagement">
      <name>Content Management Systems</name>
      <applications>
       <application name="DotNetNuke4" />
       <application name="FlexWiki" />
       <application name="Joomla15" />
      </applications>
     </category>
     <category id="CommunityPortals">
      <name>Community Portals</name>
      <applications>
      </applications>
     </category>
     <category id="BloggingSoftware">
      <name>Blogging Software</name>
      <applications>
      </applications>
     </category>
     <category id="Resellers">
      <name>DotNetPanel Applications</name>
      <applications>
      </applications>
     </category>
     <category id="StarterKits20">
      <name>ASP.NET 2.0 Starter Kits</name>
      <applications>
      </applications>
     </category>
     <category id="StarterKits10">
      <name>ASP.NET 1.1 Starter Kits</name>
      <applications>
      </applications>
     </category>
     <category id="PhotoAlbums">
      <name>Photo Albums</name>
      <applications>
      </applications>
     </category>
     <category id="DatabaseTools">
      <name>Database Tools</name>
      <applications>
      </applications>
     </category>
    </categories>

    Then you need to go download the portal for 2.8.11 from the developers section and extract the 2 files from the earlier post and replace the existing versions.  **Be sure to backup the originals.  Or just replace the missing lines of code in them.  That worked for me anyhow.Big Smile
