Question on MX records for Mail Server Configuration

Hi I have a dot net panel and an email server/client called SmarterMail.

I would prefer to use gmail for business email. Gmail is asking me to:

"Navigate to an MX record maintenance page. MX records are special DNS (Domain Name Service) records, and are often located under sections titled "DNS Management," "Mail Server Configuration," or "Name Server Management." You may need to turn on advanced settings to allow editing of these MX records."

Anyone know how to find the MX Record Maintenance Pages?

    Thanks!!!!

DNP does support managing DNS for hosted domains. Please login DNP and goto Spaces > Select your Domain > DNS Editor and there you can manage all DNS records including MX records.

Re: Question on MX records for Mail Server Configuration

I wanted to start new thread, but this is just appropriate:

Does anybody know if DNP can automatically create MX records for domain?
For example, in DNP under MS DNS service settings I can add permanent MX record for all newly created domains, but this is FIXED record (mail.something.com). But I would like DNP to create customised MX for each new domain (mail.domainname.com).

Youcan use [DOMAIN_NAME] tag whichis replaced by actual domain name.

But I would like DNP to create customised MX for each new domain (mail.domainname.com).

In addition to mail.[DOMAIN_NAME] -- You should also consider using the DNS CNAME option so that you don't set yourself up for failure down the road.  The problem comes about when you need to change your mail server IPs.  Although not something that will happen often it could be very time consuming.  An example would be mail CNAME mail.your-mail-server-name.com

Re: Question on MX records for Mail Server Configuration

Thank you very much, Rubal :) That's what I was looking for.

Regarding CNAME it is a good idea, since I was solving this problem by direct query to control panel database AND text editing DNS zone files.

BTW - when talking about DNS: do you maybe know, if domein registrars store manually entered IP numbers next to domain DNS server's FQDN? Meaning, if I migrate my primary DNS server to some other IP, will domain's DNS servers be found by FQDN name, or by IP?

Well, for your customers... they use NS1.your-domain-name.com and NS2.your-domain-name.com and at your registrar like godaddy.com there is a place for you to put the IPs of your name servers in there such as 111.111.111.111 = NS1.your-domain-name.com and 222.222.222.222 = NS2.your-domain-name.com  ... the problem is if you reference your customer's domain name for this purpose instead of your-domain-name.com then you might have issues unless you use a CNAME.
